TECO Employees Honored at 1920s-Themed Banquet

Everyone who saw TECO employees filing into the Majestic Metro Event Center February 18, 2017, probably felt as if they had traveled back in time to the 1920s! Many TECO employees and guests dressed the part to enjoy the company’s themed annual employee awards banquet.

The event celebrated 13 employees who marked service milestones in 2016, plus honored 2016’s Safe Action Suggestion winners and two Excellence Award recipients. More than 110 employees and their families attended this year’s event, enjoying dinner and dancing together while honoring their colleagues.

Excellence Awards
Started in November 2016. Awarded to employees who go above and beyond their work duties in exceptional ways.

Scottie Walker. One of TECO’s visitors had problems with her car just as Scotty was leaving work for the day. Scottie assisted the visitor by staying with her until road service arrived.

Julian Brewster. Julian has worked tirelessly to assist with the president’s building beautification project. He also lends his photography skills to employee events, project construction and visitor tours.

Safe Action Suggestion Award
TECO encourages employees to suggest safety improvements year-round. Employees vote on the submitted suggestions monthly, with each of the top three vote-getters receiving a small cash award. Then the winners are grouped quarterly and the environmental, health and safety manager selects the quarter’s top three winners, who receive a small cash award.

President and CEO Steve Swinson reviews the quarterly winners’ suggestions, this year selecting Rohn Benfield as the top Safe Action Suggestion winner for 2016.

TECO is dedicated to workplace safety. Our record is going 1,355 days! without a lost-time incident. We are working to break that record!
