Swinson Elected to Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame

TECO’s President and CEO Steve Swinson has just been elected to the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame, Class of 2022! Congratulations, Steve.

Steve was recognized for his lifetime achievements, including his service at TECO since 2005. Engineering is in Steve’s blood. While he wasn’t using a slide rule by the time he was two, it was still clear that he was born to be an engineer. He followed in his father’s engineering footsteps, learning under his instruction at Auburn University and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981. His brother followed the same path in 1985 and his son in 2006.

Auburn also provided Steve his first job and gave him the engineering experience he needed to grow in a growing industry – district energy. After 10 years at Auburn, Steve was tapped to serve as president of Trigen Energy Corporation’s Western Region. From Trigen, Steve went on to work for a mechanical contractor and construction company in addition to serving as an energy industry consultant.

In 2005, Steve was selected president and CEO of Thermal Energy Corporation (TECO), the not-for-profit company providing chilled-water and steam service to the world’s largest medical city – the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.

The Hall of Fame annually recognizes individuals, projects and corporations/institutions of engineering that significantly impact technological and economic development in Alabama, the region, the nation, or the world. It was formed in 1987 in recognition of the 150th anniversary of engineering education in the state of Alabama.

Steve will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during ceremonies in February 2022. Well done, Steve!
